P.L.E.Boy How to Dress Like A Band: Black Veil Brides

with a little help from the BVB Army and gothic fashion expert and blogger La Carmina

Today I introduce to you a new irregular segment of this blog: "How to: Dress: Like A Band". Actually, the segment is "How to" and "Dress" is a sub-segment. So it makes "Like A Band" a sub-sub... Okay, I've had enough of that. Moving on!

For the fans of Black Veil Brides, I am very glad that you are reading this right now. Kudos for you. For my pretty little viewers who have no idea what this Black Veil Brides band sound like, well watch their video now:

If you plan to accompany your girlfriend/boyfriend/cousin/teenage sibling to a Black Veil Brides concert, you know this song.

Black Veil Brides (or BVB) is an American metal band that is widely known, not just for their emotional and dark lyrics, but for their interpretation of the glam rock scene of the 80's. They currently have more than 40 million views on YouTube and 2.36 million likes on Facebook. So if you have never heard of this band, you're welcome.

Their fashion style is quite similar to Japan's visual kei, minus the bright colors and more leather.

There are two parts to this How To, that is the 'simple' tutorial and the 'taking it to the next level' tutorial.

(They say that on interviews most of the time.)

Let's start!

How to look like a BVB fan

You'll need:

  • a BVB t-shirt, or if you don't want a BVB t-shirt or you're on a budget-crushing situation, simply a Misfits shirt will do or any black t-shirt basically
  • lots of black liquid eyeliner
  • pale white foundation (optional)
  • a modern hairstyle
  • skinny jeans
  • a white or silver belt
  • accessories like a cross necklace
  • warpaint, which is typically black poster paint.

Now it's pretty little much self-describe-a-tory. If you need help with the makeup (which I doubt you would, since simply playing with it makes it more original and interesting), then check out this tutorial:

You can wear anything for your feet.

You can also add more accesories to your outfit, but if you really want to push it to the next level then fine...

How to look like a Black Veil Brides addict

For P.L.E.Boys:

You'll need:

  • an old black t-shirt, a black cropped shirt, or a Black Veil Brides shirt (you don't want your purchase to go to waste)
  • a leather jacket or vest (optional, but plus a lot of points if you have one)
  • skinny jeans, black is the best color
  • white and/or silver belt/s
  • black boots (it's a must have for boys, like seriously)
  • hairspray and other products for your hair if you have grown your hair to a point that you can consider it "long"
  • lots of black liquid eyeliner
  • pale white foundation (optional)
  • black or red lipstick
  • warpaint

Lots of makeup really is optional, since BVB members don't wear a lot right now, so if you want, you can just keep it simple.

You can also cosplay with four of your friends to match Andy's, Ashley's, Jinxx's, Jake's and CC's looks. Note that they dress and put makeup differently.

For P.L.E.Girls:

You'll need:

  • a black dress or a top-and-dress combo (don't worry, you will be shown some tips later on)
  • some accessories
  • black doll shoes or pumps
  • hairspray and other products for your hair
  • warpaint (optional)

The best choice for a dress or outfit from shops similar to XtraX and Victorian Maiden. This I learned form gothic fashion expert, author, model and blogger La Carmina.

Yes, she's my idol.

Gothic dresses look pretty much like these:

If you don't have a gothic lolita dress, and you don't plan to buy one, you better have a simple black dress or a top and a skirt on the BVB palette that complement each other.

If you are going on a more visual kei-ish direction, then you should go for black ribbons, laces and rose accesories. For a more glam rock look, wear shiny metal accesories and BVB merch accessories.

You should have a good pair of doll shoes that will complement your dress/outfit.

The warpaint is optional; we don't want things to get literally messy here.

Just some notes for PLEBoys and PLEGirls:

For the makeup, this is the best professional tutorial I found on YouTube:

For the hair, you could emulate this:

Just remember, the only colors you need are black, white, silver, gold and black. Oh, did I mention you also need black?

I hope you have fun dressing up like Black Veil Brides!
