PULP Summer Slam 14: Children of the Damned, A Bottle of the VIP Experience

I got Cameron Liddell (left-handed rhythm guitarist of Asking Alexandria) to say yes and sign my marriage proposal! Photo by Danny Card

Hello PLEBoys and PLEGirls! Last Saturday I had a blast at this year's Pulp Summer Slam! To those who are unfamiliar with the annual event, it is the longest-running metal-fest in Southeast Asia, and yes, I am Asian, for those who haven't figured that out. (Also see my trip to Free Comic Book Day here in the Philippines.)

The event has the title "Children of the Damned" probably because they know that a lot of kids would attend. The young woman on the poster and all the other media promotions is Case Ay-Yopan, in case you PLEBoys are wondering.I think the line-up is pretty awesome. They've got Hatebreed, Kreator, DeathAngel, Black Dahlia Murder, Crossfaith, Asking Alexandria and Bullet For My Valentine, so I totally see why people from around the world come from their place just to see this event. Yes, it was my first time to come to a show like this, since I'm a kid (a minor, so be scared) and I mostly like indie and mellow stuff, but it was really worth the $123.

I came to the show rather early (also see my FCBD frustrations on coming in late) because I live really far from the place (so I had to get up early to catch the bus, to not be late, I'm sure you get my logic). The front acts were rad: we had local bands such as Galaw Tao (that's "voodoo" for you), Voice of Tranquility and Embercore. While some front acts were playing, we had our chance to shake hands with the members of Japanese electronicore band Crossfaith. They were really nice! I thanked them saying "arigato", and they did the same. Their performance was unbelievable; the crowd of about 20,000 went crazy moshpit after moshpit! If you haven't heard of the band, I recommend you should buy and listen to their music because, in my opinion, they are one of the most promising hardcore bands of this generation.

This was the third time for thrash-metal band DeathAngel to play on the PSS stage. I'm very sure they enjoyed it as much as the crowd did!

It was getting dark, but the weather was still perfect. Kreator shook the stage with their haedbang-inducing songs!

After a really, really long soundcheck (you couldn't blame the guys! Live sounds should sound perfect), Hatebreed led the largest moshpit I've ever seen in my life. Also, we had the chance to high five vocalist Jamey Jasta while he was singing! Up to now, I couldn't get "Destroy Everything" off my mind and I'm sure the same goes to a lot of people from the mosh pits!

As you all know, HappyThreeCheers from deviantART (also known as who wrote this blogpost that you are currently reading) had her chibi, child-friendly fan art of "The Death of Me" featured on Asking Alexandria's website (which is a bit surprising, since I didn't put much thought into it). As a hater-turned-crazed-fangirl of Asking A., I saw the posting as a calling to attend the show where they are headlining. So there was I, shaking nervously the hands of the band members Danny, Ben, Boy-Sam, James and Cameron! It makes me real happy not only to see them but also thier smiles! When Sam complimented my Union Jack nails (which you can imitate by following these steps, PLEGirls), I saw why he has so many loyal fans, same goes with the rest of the band, because all of them are just really nice guys, even if Danny was in a not-so-good mood (we perfectly understand that and we still love you, Danny).

It's real sad that I didn't get to see Black Dahlia Murder or Bullet For My Valentine because it's too late for me to get home. Sorry!!! (T.T) But I'm sure they pulled off such an amazing show for the people I left in the pits. Shoutout to the new friends I met at the show: Francesca Lee and her mom Vanessa, and to Kuya Danny Card. I'm sure you guys had lots of fun. For the people who lost their phones/wallets/shirts/bones(?) my condolences; hope that it will never happen to you guys again, because that just ruins everything! >:P Don't let the crooks take (insert random cuss here) from you!

Thank you PULP Live World for bringing us rockers together with amazing events like this one. More power to all of you guys!

And YOU, if you wished you have attended the show, here is a Brief False Memory Implant for you! Enjoy, peeps! -H

RIP EdiciuS, New Management, Kerbera's "Counterpoints" and Some Friendly Reminders

Hey, kids. I'm not going to use EdiciuS as my name anymore, but you can still call me Edi if that's what you want. I'll be moving on now with my real name. Clear?

if that doesn't sound familiar to you...

No, PLEBoy's not going to have new management. I'll still be writing for you, my amigos, about live and love and the wonders of rock and roll and subcultures. LRRdS is also not my new screen name, just an anonymous mask for my blog and my blog only.

Moving on, I just saw this new video on the BryanStars channel (that's on YouTube, my children) from this fresh new band Kerbera, which, if you might remember, I've written a small piece of compliment for. And now they have this awesome crowd-funded music video. Watch it, it's super awesome!

Also I have some friendly reminders from the PULP Management themselves on this coming PULP Summer Slam!
now, if you cannot view it on your phone or crappy computer it says "one way to enjoy this year's summer slam is to wear the right kind of clothes that will not bug you when you're moshing at the pit. It's Summer Slam after all, so expect the heat to mosh with you. So, wear comfortable shirt, comfortable shorts and comfortable shoes. What to bring: extra shirt, bottle of water, also pack in: wet wipes/face towel, folding umbrella. Be alert! it can be pretty wild out there, so be sure to secure all belongings in your bag. refrain from putting your phone in your pocket; hide extra money in your secret pocket just in case; bring plastic bags to put your gadgets in when it rains; and of course, better to come along with your friends so you can keep an eye on each other."

Another friendly reminder, respect one another, be civil whether you're in or out of your house, peace is the best, use condoms, and support my music. -E
